An Unusual Presentation of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis

The granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), formerly known as Wegener’s granulomatosis, is a pauci-immune vasculitis involving small- and medium-sized blood vessels. Classically, the patients inflicted with this disease present with a triad of necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of the respiratory tract, cutaneous necrotizing vasculitis, and glomerulonephritis (GN). The antinuclear (ANA) and...

Mycosis fungoides with an unusual clinicopathological presentation

It is a challenging task to diagnose mycosis fungoides (MF), a type of primary cutaneous lymphoma, in the early stages of its development, due to the unspecific presentations associated with the disease. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry conduce to a more definite diagnosis. Presence of atypical T-cells in epidermis and upper dermis is the most significant pathologic finding. Herein...

Ribosome biosynthesis in cultured lymphocytes: II. The role of ribosomal RNA production in the initiation and maintenance of lymphocyte growth.

T HE CYTOPLASM OF RESTING LYMPHOCYTES contains relatively few ribosomes when compared to the dense clusters of these organelles in immunoblasts.1 A previous publication2 has suggested that ribosome assembly is restricted in resting lymphocytes and that the augmented ribosome synthesis which accompanies phytohemagglutinin ( PHA)-induced transformation of resting lymphocytes into proliferating im...

Cytoplasmic to nuclear translocation of RNA polymerase I is required for lipopolysaccharide-induced nucleolar RNA synthesis and subsequent DNA synthesis in murine B lymphocytes.

The synthesis of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) in murine B lymphocytes is markedly elevated in response to mitogens such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS). First, to investigate the mechanism involved, antibodies directed against RNA polymerase I, the enzyme responsible for transcription of ribosomal genes, were introduced into the cytoplasm of lymphocytes via red cell-mediated microinjection and the ability ...

Maize mitochondria: purification and characterization of ribosomes and ribosomal ribonucleic Acid.

Mitochondria were prepared from etiolated maize shoots (Zea mays L. var. McNair 508) by homogenization followed by differential centrifugation and equilibrium banding in discontinuous sucrose or Renografin-sucrose gradients. Mitochondria prepared by sucrose banding showed better physiological integrity than those prepared by renografin-sucrose banding, although both procedures yielded mitochond...
